A transplant nephrologist with expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation, Dr. Chandran earned her medical degree at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and completed her residency at the University of Arizona. After completing her nephrology fellowship at Stanford University, she joined UCSF in 2010 for additional training in kidney transplantation and stayed on as a member of the transplant nephrology faculty. She is currently the Director of the Inpatient Kidney Transplant Unit.
Dr. Chandran is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Transplantation. She is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. She has a strong background in renal physiology dating back to her research fellowship at Stanford during which she worked on the mechanisms of sodium transport in the distal nephron. At UCSF, she has focused her research interests on the treatment of renal graft inflammation with novel immunosuppressive regimens including cellular therapy with the overall goal of improving long term graft survival. Dr. Chandran is also involved in studying therapies that can promote tolerance in her role as an Associate Director with the clinical trials group at the Immune Tolerance Network.
